Home Sweet Home: Red Sox Clinch First World Series at Fenway Since 1918. The Red Sox prevailed over the Red Birds to claim the World Championship on the diamond.
The Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers emptied the benches after Carlos Gomez began jawing after hitting a home run off of Paul Maholm in the first inning of their game on Wednesday.
Shayn Roby’s Take: Jason Heyward should add a little more pop in the lineup as he returns to the diamond for the Braves from the disabled list after fracturing his jaw.
MLB.com’s Mark Bowman has a big update on Braves outfielder Jason Heyward, who faced live pitching on Wednesday for the first time since having his jaw fractured in two places by a Jon Niese fastball August 21:
The Braves are still not providing a definitive timetable for Heyward. But there seems to be reason to believe Heyward could be back in Atlanta’s lineup by Monday, when the club begins its final homestand of the season against the Brewers. The Atlanta Braves won their 75th game with a walk-off homerun by Justin Upton in the bottom of the tenth inning at Turner Field. The win left the Braves with a winning percentage of 0.615, which is the best in Major League Baseball.
Kris Medlen produced his finest start of the season and provided Justin Upton the opportunity to deliver the decisive two-out eighth-inning single that enabled the Braves to extend their dominance of the Nationals with Wednesday night’s sweep-clinching 6-3 win at Nationals Park.

Minor League Team Faked Rejected Marriage Proposal. A baseball fan is embarrassed after publicly proposing to his girlfriend during a New Britain Rock Cats minor league game in Connecticut last week. David asks his girlfriend Jessica to marry him on one knee. The announcer incongruously announces that Jessica ‘looks excited’ before she says ‘David, I’m sorry, I can’t’ and runs out of the stadium. The Double-A Rock Cats, an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, issued a statement Wednesday acknowledging the club staged the event with two employees standing in for the unhappy couple.
